At the center of it all is Alexis, a human raised at the pleasure of the King and Queen of Disce, the first of her kind ever granted access to the kingdom's ancient, magic-coveted texts. Her life looks privileged and almost mundane on the surface: seasonal festivities, friendships with the court, quiet afternoons in the capital's library. But nothing about Alexis's story stays simple for long.
Sent on a quest across Disce to find a book she shouldn't even be allowed to see, Alexis is thrown into a world far older and far more dangerous than the one she thought she knew. One where an Ancient believed to have slept for thousands of years has suddenly taken a very personal interest in her.
A Heroine Worth Rooting For
Alexis is exactly the kind of romantasy heroine I love following; strong, curious, determined, and refreshingly human even as the stakes around her spiral into the mythic. Watching her question the mundane life she's always accepted and start to push back against the values and prophecies she's been handed made her incredibly easy to root for from page one.
And then there's Prince Keane. If you're a reader who lives for protective, swoon-worthy love interests with plenty of yearning and simmering tension, you are going to want to meet him. His fire is the kind that doesn't just pull Alexis in; it pulls the reader in too.
The Romance: A Slow Burn Done Right

One of my absolute favorite parts of Human Reborn is the supporting cast. Every side character adds real depth to the story, making the Kingdom of Disce feel vibrant, layered, and genuinely alive. By the final pages, I wasn't just emotionally invested in Alexis and Keane; I was attached to everyone.
That Ending, Though
I won't spoil a thing, but I will say this: the ending left me desperate for Book Two. If you love a fantasy series that knows exactly how to close one door while cracking open three more, you're in for a treat.
This One's Made for Slow Evenings
Human Reborn is best enjoyed slowly. Pair it with candlelight, a warm drink, and a quiet evening where you can fully sink into the world.
